First of all I am not a manga reader and I don't know if it's been revealed yet, but I do honestly believe that what he said directly correlates with one piece, that is why Shanks laughed, and why they named the island Laugh Tale. Something feasible, through one piece and/or it's location.
Which in turn makes me really believe, I doubt we are going to ever see/hear Luffy's dream before we are already at the very end of the story, since we will probably have a big "It all comes together" moment.
